Using only images scanned from LIFE magazines providing in class, produce a promotional flier for a local cause or organization. You will input the images for editing in Photoshop but may not use Adobe fonts or graphics within your design.

Images:
The scanned source images should be cropped, color corrected, and adjusted in Photoshop. You may consider scaling into the image, combining images, or creatively manipulating the images to create a desired effect.

Text:
You may not use any stock text in your design. You may use drawing or shape creation tools,
manipulate text from LIFE magazine, or create text from other images in LIFE magazine.

Technical Requirements:
Final product will be printed in color on 8.5” x 11” paper at 300dpi PDF.

The Design must include the name of the organization, and at least one additional supporting text such as a slogan, city/location, or other promotional material.

Create a promotional flier in Photoshop for an ASMSA student club, department, or community cause. Try to think of a group on campus that would benefit from promotional materials. You may also create a flier for a community cause or notice, such as recycling, “watch your step,” or otherwise.

Inspiration:
Select a historical “inspiration” design from one of the graphic design books available in class or the Design History Overview on Canvas. You will be making your own creative design, but loosely inspired by the historical style that you select.

Images:Your flier must include at least one original photo that you take yourself and edit or manipulate in a creative way. This may include masking out part of your image, creative use of color correction, combining photos, etc. You are also welcome to use any shape or drawing tools.

Text:Use stock text available in Photoshop. Think about composition and creative ways that the text may be presented. Include any relevant information (such as contact info for a student club, etc.) without going too overboard with text content. (To warp your text, you will need to convert your text to a Smart Object.)

Technical Requirements:Your flier will be submitted as a print quality 8.5” x 11” 300 dpi PDF file in Canvas, and as a Phaser printout submitted in class. At least one flier must also be posted in a practical location somewhere on campus.

Create an entirely new design for the business or organization that you choose. The design
should consist of a new color pallet, new graphic or icon, and a new style of text.

Sketch hand-drawn ideas for your design. These designs will be scanned and imported into
Illustrator for editing. Have sketches ready to scan on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Things to consider:

• Limit your color pallet to (3) colors
• Don't overwhelm with complicated themes. This is a logo, not a poster.
• Think about what comes to mind when you envision the product. Write down these themes and consider ways to graphically simplify these themes.
• You may use Adobe fonts, but only if you customize them in some way. A major business will not want recognizable stock text.

Your Final Submission Must Include:

1. Sketch drawing scans.
2. Your primary logo as a PDF file. ("Save as" to export.)
3. At least one alternative design as a PDF file. ("Save as" to export.)

Create a 11 x 17 movie poster for a popular or classic movie.

The poster should include images from the movie or related content that is digitally illustrated. I would suggest using photographic images as your template layer and tracing the image in subsequent layers. You may also add effects or manipulation to the images directly. You are welcome to use Photoshop, Illustrator, or a combination of the two.

Text must include:

1. Movie Title
2. Movie Director
3. Three Actors Names
4. Optional – Quote, review, or tagline.

Preparation must include a mood board with at least (3) examples of illustration styles you may want to use, and at least (3) images that represent key moments or themes from the movie. Also include a sketch board with at least (3) hand-drawn or digital sketch ideas. Include stylized typography and recognizable imagery so we can get an idea of your full composition.

Final projects should be submitted as high-quality PDF 11x17 images. CMYK color mode.

Create an 8-page publication (including cover, back page, and six content pages.)

The publication must include one map or diagram. Each page must include text and a photo or graphic of some kind. You may leave the back page black or provide more info on the back.

Dimensions:

• Each page will be 8.5” x 5.5” (Two 8.5” x 11” sheets folded down the middle and bound.)
• Set up InDesign project as Width 5.5 in, Height 8.5 in., Portrait Orientation, 8 pages (facing).
• You may use Illustrator or Photoshop for any graphic content. Make sure to import images into InDesign at 300dpi in the correct size.

Final Design should be submitted as a PDF file.

Create a cover design for the 2024 ASMSA yearbook.

Before you begin, make sure to load Jostens swatches (color groups) into Adobe. In Photoshop, go to Window > Swatches. In the Swatches panel on the upper right, navigate to the box with four small lines and select "Import Swatches." Import all .ase Jostens files. You may then group them by clicking the folder at the bottom of the Swatches window. I will provide the swatches on a thumb drive.

You will also need to load the Jostens color guide. To do this, go to the Edit menu, select Color Settings. Click the Load button and browse to the Jostens.csf file. The file can be downloaded from Canvas.

You will then need to load the template. Instructions to do this are in the Canvas files.

Final Project should be submitted as layered project files.
